Tree Service in Perry, GA

Where Houston County subdivisions run out and the farmland starts. Perry gives us both kinds of work in the same week.

Tree Removal & Land Clearing in Perry, Georgia

Perry has called itself the Crossroads of Georgia for a long time, and the name holds up — I-75 runs north and south through it, US 341 cuts across, and for generations anybody driving the length of the state passed through. It's the Houston County seat, it has a genuinely handsome old downtown, and since the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter opened on the edge of town it draws livestock shows, equestrian events and the state fair every October.

What matters for tree work is what Perry sits in the middle of. This is where suburban Houston County runs out and working farmland begins. Drive five minutes from the courthouse and you're in pasture, row crop and pecan groves. That means we show up in Perry for two completely different kinds of job, often in the same week: residential removals in town, and agricultural clearing out on the county roads.

The in-town work looks like the rest of Houston County — tall loblolly pines planted when the neighborhoods went in, now eighty feet or better and reaching the end of their comfortable life next to a roof. Flat ground and sandy soil mean shallow root plates, and a saturated week followed by a windy afternoon is what puts them down. Out on the farms it's a different list entirely: fence lines that have grown up until the wire is inside the trees, pasture reclaiming itself at the edges, field access blocked by what came down last spring, and pecans.

Pecans deserve their own mention around here, because Middle Georgia has a great many of them — in old groves, in yards, along drives — and pecan is a notoriously brittle wood. A pecan will drop a substantial limb on a still summer afternoon with no storm anywhere near it, which is a real hazard when it's hanging over a drive, a barn roof or where people park. They're beautiful, productive trees worth keeping, and they need more attention than most.

JC's Tree & Stump Removal is based in Macon, about twenty-five minutes up I-75, and Houston County is one of our most regular working areas. We've been at it since January 2022, we're BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, and JC Henry runs the jobs himself. Whether it's one pine too close to a bedroom or half a mile of overgrown fence line, you get a written price before anything starts and a property left clean when we go. Call or text JC at 478-972-8036.

★★★★★

"JC and his team took down 60 or so dead and dying eastern cedar trees between 30 and 50 feet tall. They cut, hauled and cleaned up all of the trees and under-brush in one day. I have used JC before and both times the work was excellent and his fees were very reasonable. He is my tree guy!!"

Perry Tree Service FAQ

What Perry and Houston County property owners ask us most.

Do you work out on the county roads, or just in town?

Both, and the rural work is a real part of what we do. Pasture clearing, fence lines, field edges, access roads and lots out on acreage are normal jobs for us — not something we take on reluctantly. Tell us where the property is and roughly what's on it.

My pecan keeps dropping limbs. Is something wrong with it?

Probably not — pecan is just a brittle wood, and healthy pecans shed limbs more readily than most species, sometimes on a dead calm day. That's normal for the tree and dangerous for whatever's underneath. The answer is usually deadwooding and some selective reduction over anything you care about, not removal.

Can you clear a fence line on a working pasture?

Yes, and it's common work out here. The thing to settle first is whether the fence is staying or being replaced, because it changes the approach entirely. Where trees have grown around the wire, that stretch needs the tree out and the wire cut free carefully — buried wire destroys a chain instantly.

How far is Perry from you?

About twenty-five minutes up I-75 from Macon. Houston County is one of our most regular areas, so Perry isn't a stretch for us — it's a normal week.

Why do the pines around here come down so often?

Houston County is flat with sandy soil, which gives pines wide shallow root plates rather than deep anchorage. Combine that with eighty-plus feet of height and nearly all the weight up in the crown, soak the ground for a few days, and a gusty afternoon does the rest. They also tend to snap partway up rather than tip, so the top lands well away from the trunk.

Do you give free estimates out this far?

Yes, free and in writing, same as anywhere else we work. Call or text with the address and a photo if you can — JC can often give you a good idea of the number before anybody drives out.
