Lot & Land Clearing in Macon & Middle Georgia

Land & Lot Clearing

Lot Clearing

Getting a piece of ground from where it is now to where you can actually build on it, fence it, or mow it.

What "Cleared" Actually Means

Lot clearing covers a lot of ground, literally and otherwise. It might be half an acre behind a house that's grown up over fifteen years, a homesite on raw land, a pasture reclaiming itself, or a commercial pad that needs to be flat dirt by a date.

The first thing worth settling is what level of cleared you actually need, because the word means four different things and the price difference between them is substantial.

Cut and haul takes the trees and brush off and leaves the stumps. It's the cheapest, and it's enough if you're going to mow it or run cattle. Cut and grind adds stump grinding, which gets you a surface you can mow and plant. Grubbing pulls stumps and root balls out entirely, which is what you need under anything you're going to build or pave. Cleared and graded adds shaping the ground afterward.

Most people call wanting "the lot cleared" and mean one of the middle two. Tell us what's going on that ground in a year — grass, a house, a barn, a pasture, a driveway — and we'll tell you which level you need and price it. Paying for grubbing on ground that's only ever going to be lawn is money thrown away, and we'd rather say so.

From Overgrown to Usable

Residential, commercial and rural ground across Middle Georgia.

🏠

Build Sites & Homesites

House pads, additions, shops, pole barns and driveways — cleared to what the build needs.

🚜

Pasture & Fields

Ground reclaimed for grazing, hay or just getting a tractor across it again.

🌳

Selective Clearing

Take these, leave those. A mature hardwood in the right spot is worth real money on a finished lot.

🧹

Hauled Off, Not Piled

Everything leaves the property. No burn pile at the back of the lot for you to deal with later.

What Drives the Price

Four things, in roughly this order: how much is on it, how big the trees are, what the ground is like, and how far material has to travel to get off the property.

Density matters more than acreage. Two acres of open field with twenty scattered pines is a smaller job than half an acre of thick understory with hardwoods in it. Walk it with us rather than guessing from the road — what looks like light growth from the driveway is often a wall of privet twenty feet in.

Ground conditions decide the schedule as much as the price. Middle Georgia clay holds water, and clearing a wet lot means ruts, bogged equipment and a mess that costs more to fix than waiting would have cost. If the ground's saturated, the honest recommendation is often to wait a week.

And then there's what you keep. Selective clearing takes longer than taking everything, because every tree that stays needs protecting — from equipment traffic, from root compaction, and from being the one tree left standing in open ground with no wind-firmness. We'll flag the ones we'd fight to keep and the ones that won't survive being left alone.

Lot Clearing FAQ

How much does it cost per acre?

There isn't an honest per-acre number, which is why we don't publish one. An open acre with scattered pines and an acre of thick mixed hardwood and privet are different jobs by a wide margin. Anybody quoting a flat per-acre price over the phone is guessing, and the number usually moves once they see it. We walk it and give you a written price.

Do I need a permit to clear my land?

Possibly, and it depends on your county, whether there's a stream or wetland involved, how much ground is being disturbed, and whether you're in city limits. Bibb, Houston, Monroe and Jones all handle it differently. We're a tree service, not a permitting consultant — check with your county before you commit to a date, and talk to your builder if you have one.

Can you leave some of the trees?

Yes, and usually you should. A mature hardwood in the right place adds real value to a finished property and can't be put back once it's down. Walk the lot with us and mark what stays. One caution: a tree that grew up in a stand has never handled wind on its own, so leaving a single tall pine in the middle of a cleared lot often means it comes down within a couple of seasons.

What happens to all the material?

It leaves. We haul it off rather than pushing it into a pile at the back of the property, which is what a lot of outfits do and what you end up living with. If you want some of it kept — firewood rounds, a chip pile for trails — say so and we'll stage it where you want it.

Do you clear stumps too?

We can, at whatever level you need. Cut low, ground down, or grubbed out completely. What you need depends entirely on what's going on that ground afterward, and it's the single biggest swing in a clearing price. Tell us the plan and we'll tell you the level.

What about erosion once it's cleared?

Worth thinking about before, not after, especially on any slope. Bare Georgia clay sheds water fast and gullies form quickly in a hard summer rain. Have a plan for getting cover back on it — seed and straw at minimum — and if the site is steep or near a stream, talk to your county about what's required.
