Harness horses, the Ocmulgee, and a lot of river-bottom hardwood. Hawkinsville has trees in places that take some thinking about.
Hawkinsville is the Pulaski County seat, sitting on the Ocmulgee River about an hour south of Macon. It's known across the country among harness racing people — trotters and pacers have wintered and trained here for generations — and the rest of the year it goes about its business as a farming and river town with a handsome old downtown.
The Ocmulgee is the thing that shapes tree work here. River-bottom ground stays wet, and wet ground holds roots less firmly than drained soil does. A hardwood down in the bottoms can be entirely healthy in the crown and still be standing in soil that won't hold it through a long rainy stretch followed by wind. Away from the river it's ordinary Coastal Plain — sandy soil, planted pines, and the shallow root plates that go with them.

"JC and his team took down 60 or so dead and dying eastern cedar trees between 30 and 50 feet tall. They cut, hauled and cleaned up all of the trees and under-brush in one day. I have used JC before and both times the work was excellent and his fees were very reasonable. He is my tree guy!!"

Saturated ground. Bottomland soil along the Ocmulgee holds water, and wet soil doesn't grip roots the way drained soil does. The tree can look perfectly sound overhead and still be in ground that lets go. Watch for new lean and for soil lifting on one side of the base.
Yes, that's normal work for us in the rural parts of Middle Georgia. Fence lines where trees have grown into the wire, overgrown pasture edges, blocked field access. Tell us roughly how much footage and how wide you want it.
