One of the fastest-growing corners of Houston County — and a lot of its newest yards still have the old pine stand standing in them.
Bonaire has grown faster than almost anywhere else in Houston County. What was farmland and pine woods along Highway 96 a generation ago is now subdivision after subdivision, and the building hasn't stopped. It's a good place to live and it creates a very particular tree problem.
When a developer thins a pine stand to build, the trees left standing have a problem nobody sees coming. They grew up in a crowd, sheltered on every side, so they put their energy into height rather than trunk taper or root spread. Take the stand away and those pines are suddenly exposed to wind they never developed to handle. The first two or three seasons after a lot is cleared are when they come down — often in the first real storm, often onto something brand new.

"JC and his team took down 60 or so dead and dying eastern cedar trees between 30 and 50 feet tall. They cut, hauled and cleaned up all of the trees and under-brush in one day. I have used JC before and both times the work was excellent and his fees were very reasonable. He is my tree guy!!"

"JC and his crew did a great job getting the massive tree that fell during the storm. They were very helpful and worked hard to make sure myself and my neighbor were happy with the end results, and all of my property — trailers and fence — that were buried by the tree were protected while they worked. Will use JC's Tree Service again!"

What Bonaire property owners ask us most.
Because they're older than the houses. They grew up in a dense stand, sheltered from wind on every side, so they never developed the trunk taper or root spread that an open-grown tree has. Clearing the lot exposed them all at once. It's the single most common tree problem in newly built Houston County neighborhoods.
Height relative to spacing is the first clue — a very tall, very slender pine standing more or less alone is the classic case. Beyond that it's a look at lean, root plate and crown. JC will walk the yard and tell you which ones he'd take and which are fine, and plenty of them are fine.
Yes, and it matters on a new build. We'll plan the drop zones and the truck route around beds and fresh sod, and use ground protection where we have to cross it. Point out what you've just put in.
Yes. Bonaire, Kathleen and the newer stretches along Highway 96 are normal working ground for us, not an edge of the map.
